Tips for Taking Medicine

Taking your medicine as directed can help you manage your health condition and be healthier.

5 Tips to Manage Your Medicine
Here are some tips to help you take your medicine as your healthcare provider directs:

  1. Make a list:
  2. Make a list of the drugs you take (including creams, inhalers and patches) and anything you take over the counter (including vitamins and supplements). Share this list with your healthcare providers on every visit.

  3. Save trips to the pharmacy:
  4. Ask your doctor for a 90-day prescription to save trips to the pharmacy, if allowed.
Talk to your healthcare provider about home delivery for medicine you take regularly.

  5. Plan ahead:
  6. Schedule automatic refills, if possible, or put a reminder on your calendar to refill before running out.

  7. Set a routine:
  8. Take your medicine at a set time every day so it becomes routine. Set a reminder on a smartphone, watch or computer.

  9. Get organized:
  10. Use a pill organizer to keep everything together.

If you have trouble keeping up with any medicine, please tell your healthcare provider or pharmacist so they can help.
